Goodreads summary:
Percy Jackson is a good kid, but he can’t seem to focus on his schoolwork or control his temper. And lately, being away at boarding school is only getting worse—Percy could have sworn his pre-algebra teacher turned into a monster and tried to kill him.
When Percy’s mom finds out, she knows it’s time that he knew the truth about where he came from, and that he go to the one place he’ll be safe. She sends Percy to Camp Half Blood, a summer camp for demigods (on Long Island), where he learns that the father he never knew is Poseidon, God of the Sea.
Soon a mystery unfolds and together with his friends—one a satyr and the other the demigod daughter of Athena—Percy sets out on a quest across the United States to reach the gates of the Underworld (located in a recording studio in Hollywood) and prevent a catastrophic war between the gods.
My thoughts:
I need more Percy Jackson in my life!
I picked up this book for my readathon last weekend, because it’s the first book in a very popular series AND it’s sort of short so it wouldn’t be so hard to finish it in a day.
Boy oh boy, did this book surprise me! I had seen great reviews about the whole Percy Jackson series so I went in with high expectations… and I wasn’t disappointed! 😀
This is such an easy book to read (because the target audience is probably half my age) and it’s such a fun way to learn more about Greek mythology! I’m in love! Seriously!
The only reason why I didn’t rate this 5 out of 5 stars is because I wish the main characters were a bit older. Sometimes I forgot they were only 12. I kept imagining them as 15/16 year olds, which would have suited the story better, in my humble opinion.
If you haven’t read the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series yet, what are you waiting for?
I recently read all five books in seven days, haha! So I totally agree on the “quick and easy read”-part. I did have the same issue you have in the way that the first book (especially the first one) felt a little childish at times. But it gets better as you get further in the series!

Ahh another person read my favorite series!! I’m so glad you liked it so much! As for the age thing, don’t worry, because the books just get better and the characters do get older as the series goes on. In the spin-off series, they actually are 16-17.

i’m so glad you enjoyed this one! i read pjo when i was the same age as the main character, so i guess i could relate to it, and i’ve always suspected that this was the reason why i loved it so much. but seeing so many people that are not part of the target audience also loving it makes me realize that this series is just indeed marvelous! hope you love the rest of the series just as much!
